When I studied English and French, I found vocabulary is a big challenge for learning a new language. Most of the learners find remembering vocabulary is boring and difficult. Some of them give up learn a language because of vocabulary.
In U.S.A, only 7 percent of college students are enrolled in a language course. Less than 1 percent of American adults today are proficient in a foreign language that they studied in a U.S classroom. Today, schools are having a hard enough time finding instructors in traditionally taught languages. So it's time to use a new way to learn the languages with technology.
What kind of app could increase learners interests and an ability of a new language？That's why I design this new app: Vocab.
When I came up with this idea, I did some research of some vocabulary app in the market (in U.S.A & in China). I used them as a learner and I compare their visual design and function. I see the reviews of users in the apple store and combine their opinions with mine. Finally, I decide my design features.
Target audiences: I focus on the young people especially high school students and university students. They have a lot of time to study a new language and need to improve their ability of language.
In my daily life, I often have such a scene:
The vet suggests that my cat takes a bath every three months, but I always forget the last time of bath.
My contact lenses should be changed every month, but I always forget which day I should change the new one.
I should contact my doctor once every five months to let her know my recent physical condition, but I always forget the date.
Now a lot of apps can remind us to complete the daily schedule, and we are also very good at creating all kinds of meetings, appointments, and other important events on the agenda. Therefore, I want to design an app so that we can quickly and easily remember these trivial, repetitive events.
